CST News
At last winter has arrived! What a cold spell it has been. However, hopefully it will kill the bugs in the garden and the glasshouse and for those into broad beans, are they not planted now? Similarly with garlic??
We are all learning to adjust to life without Blake. Sue and I met him for a meal a couple of days into his new job and shall we say he is finding it different. But he was looking fit and well and seemed excited by the new challenge. Gregg is working hard to fit into our routines and work practices and has now met quite a lot of our customers.
A “heads up” too that “Microsoft” seems to be starting the telephone calls again. We have had a couple of calls from customers asking if the calls were for real and what should they do. To remind our customers that Microsoft will NOT call you or me and if someone asks to get into your computer, tell them to go away (unless of course it is one of our staff and you have called us to ask for a job to be done.)
Sue and I have just had a couple of days away in Christchurch visiting family. It is always good to spend time with family but home is really nice at this time of the year. Nothing better than our own fire and our cat! The frosts up there were harder than here I suspect – to use the new word of the month from Jim’s weather replacement on TV One – bone chilling!!! But clear blue skies helped after the frost. At lease we got the impression of warmth.
We are now well past the shortest day so it is all downhill now to summer. What a nice thought.
Windows 10
The release of Windows 10 draws closer. My techies have had a look at the latest release and seem happy with what they have been playing with. In fact Brendon from Dunedin reckons it is the best version of Windows yet.
A reminder that Windows 10 is due for public release on July 29 this year – only a few days away. I have advised our customers not to be amongst the very first to get Windows 10. There are bound to be some bugs so let others sort out the bugs. We do however have our first customer with a spot booked in for us to upgrade her system!
To explain how to book an upgrade and then do it, go here. This Microsoft page is unusually clear and easy to follow and will show you all you need. If you are not confident, do not hesitate to contact us and we can do it for you.
Not Sure What You Call This
Is it a Sausage giraffe or dachsaffe or who knows. However this is especially for my favourite oldest granddaughter Charlotte, who is right into giraffes.
Computer Sales
We still get lots of people who come in to see us looking for a new computer and are surprised when we can offer them good quality second hand systems for a fraction of the price of a new one.
Most of the second hand systems we sell are only three or four years old – the odd laptop has still had some of its factory three year warranty left to run. They all come with Windows 7 and so are all entitled to the free Microsoft upgrade to Windows 10. And they will all do most of what most of our customers demand from a computer. If you have children who want to play the latest high powered games, we might have to look on the new shelf but most of us are not into that. So if you want a good reliable second hand system, pop in and see us. I am sure you will be surprised at how good these computers are and how much you can save.
A Couple of Classroom Stories
Biology Lesson:
A teacher was giving a lesson on the circulation of the blood.
Trying to make the matter clearer, she said, “Now, class, if I stood on my head, the blood, as you know, would run into it, and I would turn red in the face.”
“Yes,” the class said.
“Then why is it that while I am standing upright in the ordinary position the blood doesn’t run into my feet?”
A little fellow shouted, “Cause your feet ain’t empty.”;
Apples:
The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch.
At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray “Take only ONE . God is watching.”;
Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. A child had written a note, “Take all you want. God is watching the apples.”;
Website of the Month
Sue found this site. Have a look and admire the guy’s talent. If you like his work, google his name to see more and read a bit about him.
Laser Printer Sale
We are at the stage of life a few years short of retirement that we are making an effort to get rid of stuff! Sue calls it decluttering. However our trip to Christchurch involved us collecting a printer from Wendy and bringing it back here.
This is a printer we gave Wendy when she started university 8 years ago. She told me that she has not yet used a toner cartridge in it! We have had a quick check and it is showing 1849 pages.
A new toner cartridge for this laser printer is $131.00 inc GST and is rated at 2000 pages – running costs of 6.5 cents per page. Where will you get cheaper than that??
Before you say that it is 8 years old, and so nearly at the end of life, the one above my desk is an earlier model than this and we have had it for almost 13 years. It has printed over 70 000 sheets and not missed a beat.
If we do not sell this, I am more than happy to use it as a loan printer here at CST as I have complete confidence and faith in it. We are asking $75.00 for this printer since I presume it is close to needing a new toner.
Oops
Someone will have some explaining to do to the boss.
